Established in 1963 in Ghatkopar, Mumbai, Ramniranjan Jhunjhunwala (R. J.) College is a premier educational institution. Over the decades, it has expanded remarkably in both quality of education and academic expertise, earning a reputation as an academic powerhouse. Today, it stands as a byword for excellence. The Chemistry Department, guided by the vision of the Hindi Vidya Prachar Samiti and led by Mr. Mandar Medhi, is a cornerstone of the college. Our department is supported by 15 dedicated teaching faculty members and an equal number of non-teaching staff, catering to a diverse body of over 800 students ranging from the F.Y.B.Sc. level to the Ph.D. program.

Our DBT Star Department Status & Infrastructure 

A proud hallmark of our institutional excellence is our recognition as a DBT Star Department. Our journey with the Department of Biotechnology (Govt. of India) began in 2014 when we were selected under the foundational DBT Star College Scheme. Following five years of successful grant implementation and a demonstration of exceptional academic outcomes, our core science departments were officially elevated to the elite "Star Status" in 2019.

This prestigious distinction is a testament to the relentless efforts and dedication of our outstanding faculty, support staff, and management. The Star status recognizes departments that demonstrate exceptional academic delivery and empowers them to further elevate undergraduate science education through enhanced practical training and research facilities. Consequently, the college boasts state-of-the-art laboratories equipped with the latest instrumentation, including Electrochemical Measurement Systems, Spectrophotometers, Colorimeters, and HPLC systems, ensuring an unparalleled hands-on learning environment.
