Since the Spanish began colonizing us 333 years ago, we have greatly benefited from their influence in terms of culture, languages, way of life, fashion, and even religion. The most upsetting occurrence was when the Filipinos were reduced to slavery and poverty in their own country. The Spanish made life difficult for the Filipino people.
Dr. Jose Rizal said his vision for the Philippines is better and even stated that the country is the Pearl of the Oriental Seas. He also reflects in his papers on the suffering of the Philippines under Spain. We have been slaves, poor, and even the worst treatment experienced by the Filipinos. But everything has an end, not every evilness will stay forever. Filipin people keep on begging for freedom for so many years so they fight for it through writing, arts, and war. They did everything to gain the freedom we have right now.
If there is a lesson to be learned from Jose Rizal's essay, it is that if we are willing to fight for what we want, we can succeed! Even if it results in your death, you shouldn't be ashamed or frightened to fight for your nation. Different acts of bravery by Filipinos paid for Philippine Freedom; we should be appreciative and honor their valor.
We have learned about the sacrifices of different Filipinos who fought for our country’s freedom. They did everything they can so we can have the freedom we enjoying right now. If we will learn something from Rizal’s writing we need to study well to achieve something for you and for the country. Do things for the benefit of the county. We must let people do their things according to their will but align with the laws.
Since a different nation has mistreated us for so long, we shouldn't allow our government to act in the same way. We must modify the current circumstances and move forward if we hope to have a significant impact on the next generation and ensure a brighter future. I should get more involved in politics as a young person in this generation so that the government does not make the same error. The voice and sight of those who cannot speak and those who have never heard should be ours.
