The militia started out as an idea to get the most people in the group as possible. Some needed more convincing, so I offered free food; worked like a charm! We eventually grew to a large number of people and started to become a sort of trend; people joined because other people were joining. I have to say, it felt pretty awesome to be a part of it.
As we were growing, members started to give funds to the Militia; they were very generous. We could have accepted them as donations, but we considered them as investments in the Militia. And so River's Militia, in some ways, shifted to a business. Investors could own part of the company and, with those funds, we would spread the Militia. We decided the best way to do this was through charity. Our first charitable exchange was buying canned goods with the money to give other people, and we have others planned.
What better place to spread the Militia then the internet! Now, we hope to gain many members from around the globe, and to use investments from the few extremely generous members to fund charities that will spread kindness (and by association the Militia) everywhere and to everyone. That's the dream...
