The River Lostock flows from Near to Withnell Fold meandering around the houses to Croston.
Below is a map of the elevation of footpaths next to the river - please note elevation is taken from my GPS watch so inaccuracies due to GPS... where path is etc...
Line through the middle shows "as a crow flies" distance of 14.5k.
