Introduction
The Radiant Riverdale: Co-designing for Community Ownership Plan seeks to lay the groundwork for future development in the Riverdale Community Area (CA) that prioritizes health by restoring connectivity, economy, and ecology through community autonomy. This plan was created by University of Illinois at Chicago’s Master of City Design’s (MCD) Chicago Charrette 2026 in close collaboration with the primary community partner, the Riverdale Community Land Trust (RCLT), and supported by additional partners including Greenprint Partners, Openlands, Design Workshop, SOM and the Center for Extreme Conditions and Health Excellence (CECHE). The Summer 2026 studio will set the foundation for the subsequent work by the Fall 2026 Urban Edge studio, that will dive deeper into Riverdale and provide more detailed design interventions.
