Environmental Improvements

Binder Lake Audubon Trail

On September 10, 1998 the Audubon Nature Trail at Binder Lake was dedicated. The trail was dedicated to the memory of Charlie Callison who was an Audubon leader on both state and national level. The trail is located on the southeast side of Binder lake, near the "Pavilion" located just north of the campground.

Litter Pick-ups *

The River Bluffs Audubon have been involved with several types of litter pick-ups throughout the Jefferson City area. The chapter has participated in highway and Binder Lack trash pick-ups. Watch the calendar for dates, times, and places.

Butterfly Garden *

Audubon members collaborated with the Native Plant Society and the Jefferson City Park and Recreation Department. The butterfly garden was planted using native Missouri flowers. Through out the year garden work such as, weeding and mulching is needed. Check the newsletter calendar of events for the next scheduled work day.

Edgewood Nature Trail*

Audubon continues to improve the Edgewood habitat and natural trail. Watch the newsletter for additional information.

Tree Planting

Volunteers from the River Bluffs Chapter responded to a request from the Department of Conservation to help plant 4,500 trees for a new Blue Heron rookery below Bagnall Dam.

Education and Outreach

School Recycling Program *

The River Bluffs Chapter donates time every year to help bring information about recycling to 15 area public and parochial schools in Jefferson City...If you have any ideas and/or would like to participate in an activity we would love to hear from you. Please feel free to send us an e-mail or come share your ideas with us at the next chapter meeting.

Compost Education Exhibit

A cooperative project of River Bluffs Audubon Society, Jefferson City Parks and Recreation. The composite exibit is located in Memorial Park and is maintained by the Jefferson City Parks and Recreation.

Kids-R-Curious Program

The goal of Kids-R-Curious was to provide children with a fun trail walk to learn about birds and birding.

All though the kids-R-Curious Program no longer conducts the program activities, speakers are available to speak to youth or other interested groups.

Fundraising

Bird Seed Sale! *

Help feed the birds while contributing to the Chapters educational efforts. The Chapter conducts an annual birdseed sale. Proceeds from the sale will be used for educational efforts. Audubon Premium Shade Grown Coffee

If you never tried shade grown coffee you don't know what you are missing. Audubon Shade Grown Coffee can be purchased through the National Audubon Society or locally from Birds-I-View.

Krispy Kreme Doughnuts Sale

Almost everyone enjoys eating a fresh Krispy Kreme doughnut (along with a hot cup of shade grown coffee). On occasion, the Chapter sells Krispy Kreme doughnuts. Watch the newsletter for any upcoming sale events.
