Riverbend Gathering is nature-focused, play-based, and child-led. Here is what that means...
Nature-Focused:
Our main focus during forest school is exploring and connecting with the natural world by observing the same space throughout the seasons, having hands-on experiences, and investing time in the wild.
Play-Based:
Children have an inherent desire to learn through exploring the environment around them. Providing opportunity for unstructured play allows for critical thinking, problem solving, and building social-emotional skills.
Child-Led:
Children thrive when they are trusted by the adults around them. Letting their interests set the tone for the time spent together builds confidence and self-esteem. It also fosters more engagement when we are learning and exploring.

Hi! I'm Lindsay and I love to play outside!
After working in the public school setting for five years, I opened a nature-based preschool in the St. Louis area. I loved providing a opportunity for kids (including my own) to explore in all weather, play in the dirt, observe wildlife, and connect with the natural world. I saw daily the considerable benefits kids have from spending time outdoors.
When I relocated to Oklahoma in 2022, I had the wonderful opportunity to get certified as a nature-based teacher through the Association for Nature-Based Education. Shortly after that, I set to creating another nature program here in a Pawnee – Riverbend Gathering Forest School!
And am so excited to be back in my favorite place – in the forest, exploring with kids!
