Welcome to River Hill Pottery — I'm Gail Sellers.
This studio is where I live, work, and teach — and you're always welcome to step inside.
River Hill Pottery has been my creative home for many years, right here in the Eclipse Mill Artist Lofts in North Adams. My kiln is always warm, the clay is never far from my hands, and the gallery shelves are lined with pieces that hold stories — some new, some stretching back to work created with my husband and partner in life and art, Phil Sellers.
Phil and I spent decades making together — weaving coils, rolling slabs, pushing clay through custom-made extruders to create our signature ceramic baskets. He passed in 2020, but his spirit is everywhere here — in the tools we designed, in the rhythms of the studio, and especially in the open-hearted way we always welcomed people in. That part hasn’t changed.
I keep an open studio.
If the lights are on and the door’s open — come in. You’ll find a working space filled with clay, color, texture, and form — and a gallery and shop where you can see (and take home) finished work. Every piece is hand-built, many with woven or sculptural elements, and all carry the touch of time and intention.
I also teach.
Whether you're new to clay or looking to develop your own creative voice, I offer one-on-one coaching and small workshops in hand-building and coil techniques. It’s not just about learning how clay works — it’s about listening to what the material wants to become and finding your own rhythm in the process.
And every fall during Eclipse Mill's Open Studios — the doors open wide.
Artists from all four floors invite the community in, and I love sharing what I do with people who are curious, creative, or just passing through. Those weekends are full of stories, memories, and fresh energy — Phil and I always cherished that connection, and I carry it forward.
So, if you’re drawn to clay, or want to see how a working pottery studio lives and breathes — I invite you to visit. Walk around the gallery, ask questions, watch something being made — or roll up your sleeves and try it yourself.
You're invited — anytime.
Warmly,
Gail
