Our mission is to preserve a once vital Rittman landmark to enhance the well-being of the Rittman community and preserve our history.
In order to SAVE the train station, we have been told it needs to be moved in order for the public to use it. We are hopping to have the building moved and placed on the Wayne County County Line, "Rails to Trails" multipurpose trail located between Sterling and Erie Ave.
Once both buildings are restored internally and externally, they will provide a gathering place for:
Education
Recreation
Art
Innovation
Exercise
Historical Displays
Cost and Timeline
In total, we need to raise around $200,000 in order to move and restore the station back to its original appearance as it would have looked in 1891. It will cost around $70,000 to move the building to its new location with a foundation and the other $130,000 would go towards restoration. We need to have the project completed by the end of 2027.
The Maintenance of Way shed is not apart of the estimate and will be thought of at a later point in time.
