ABOUT

I like to call myself an experimental phytoplankton ecologist; the majority of my work has been focused on phytoplankton ecology in coastal and estuarine ecosystems, particularly the effects of anthropogenic stressors and climate change-related variables. I am a marine biologist and completed M.Sc. and Ph.D degrees in marine ecology, a post-doc in phytoplankton ecology and another post-doc in environmental psychology.

Eclectic and curious by nature, I also obtained B.Sc., M.Sc., and Ph.D. degrees in Psychology, which allowed me to expand my research into the human dimensions of environmental problems, particularly coastal risks.

I grew up in Lisbon, Portugal's capital, and moved to the Algarve, Portugal's southernmost region, to study marine biology. Now, I'm deeply rooted in Faro, where I enjoy a slow-paced lifestyle with my partner, two sons, three cats, and two dogs. Being physically active is a huge part of my life and in my spare time I enjoy swimming, yoga-based movement, lifting weights, stand up paddling... I also enjoy listening to jazz, playing the piano, and reading and watching noir fiction...
