Leadership Development Event

Floral Design

This contests consists of identification, judging and construction. Students are required to identify cut flowers, potted plants, materials and tools used in the floral industry. Students will also evaluate 6 judging classes, including cut flowers, potted plants, flowering potted plants and floral designs. Lastly, the students will construct a corsage and floral arrangement to demonstrate their ability. If you are interested or would like more information, please speak with Ms. Warren in room J3.


Veterinarian Science

This contest consists of identification, general knowledge and performance on practicums. Students are responsible for knowing breeds, parasites, common materials and tools used in industry. They also have to calculate percentages of dosages needed for certain vaccinations. If you are interested in participating in this CDE or would like more information, please speak with Mrs. Carson in room V5, periods 1-4 or room L2, periods 5-6.

Best Informed Greenhand

B.I.G is a contest to understand the aims, purposes, history, and structure of the Local, State, and National FFA student organization. This contest is for first year freshmen agriculture students, who are FFA members. A team consist of 5 members. Parliamentary Procedure

Parli Pro is a contest which 6 students conduct a mock chapter meeting, running the business portion. Students learn the proper usage of Robert's Rule of Order as well as getting through required motions needed within the 11 minutes given. If you are interested, or would like more information, please speak with Mrs. Carson in V5, periods 1-4 or L2 periods 5-6.


Speaking Competitions

Creed

The Creed is for FFA Members in the seventh, eighth, and ninth grade. They recite the FFA Creed written by E.M. Tiffany from memory and answer questions about its meaning and purpose. If you are interest or would like more information about this contest, please talk to Ms. Guerra in room D9.

Impromptu

Impromptu is a contest for sophomores which fosters and develops their speaking abilities. They get to choose three slips which contain a topic about agriculture. Then, they chose one out of the three and talk about that topic for 1 minute upon what they know. Afterwards, the student get to draw three new slips containing quotes and are given 1 minute to speak upon what they think the quote. Prepared Public Speaking

Prepared Public Speaking is a contest which juniors and seniors in the FFA, prepare and deliver a six-eight minute speech about an agriculture topic. If you are interested or would like to participate in this contest, please speak with Ms. Warren in room J3.


Extemporaneous Public Speaking

Extemp is a contest where juniors and seniors students are given 30 minutes to prepare and deliver a six-eight minute speech about one of the three assigned agriculture topics. If you are interest or want to know more information about this contest, please speak with Ms. Warren in room J3.


Employment Skills (Job Interview)

This competition is where juniors and seniors create a cover letter, resume and fill out a job application for a mock interview. Students learn important public speaking skills and life skills when apply for a job.
