The course focuses on knowledge and skills related to artistic perception, creative expression, historical and cultural context(s); aesthetic valuing and connections, relations and applications to the visual arts. Students will derive meaning from artworks through analysis, interpretation, and judgment and apply what is learned in Floral Design to other forms and subjects in employment opportunities and post secondary educational experiences. Through practical skill development the student will become familiar with material selection, design mechanics, maintenance and evaluation of designs. Students will achieve this through creating, designing, identifying, explaining and evaluating all topics of study. Various assignments based on abstract two and three dimensional designs, historical culture and theory, color theory, and analytical critiques of various floral art works using design vocabulary in conjunctions with development of technical skills in floral art will serve as a foundation for more complex works such as multi-part floral designs and creative expression.
