I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for working with a Deakin University preservice teacher.
The Ringwood Alliance is about supporting preservice teachers and mentors to improve the experience of teachers in their initial teacher training.
Being a mentor in the Ringwood Alliance means that you have support from a Site Director, me!
This means that you have someone that you can talk to, lean on for advice, and utilise throughout the placement experience.
To assist with this, I ask that you:
Complete a mid-placement check-in form.
Immediately contact me over email or through the PST Coordinator/Assistant Principal in your school if you have concerns about the preservice teacher's ability to successfully complete placement.
Each placement has slightly different requirements and each preservice teacher will have specific needs. However, alongside these different requirements and needs there are commonalities. All preservice teachers will:
Observe;
Interact with you, other teachers and students;
Need to be addressing the appropriate Australian Professional Standards for Teachers that are summarised in their placement report;
Successfully fulfil all required areas in the placement report;
Complete a check-in with the Site Director in week 1;
Participate in an Assessment Circle during their placement.
Differences will include:
Teaching requirements;
Tasks required for specific units;
Levels in the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers and the placement report.
Ongoing support of you and your preservice teacher is a goal for me. One way to ensure that I am providing this support is to have both preservice teachers and mentors complete placement check-ins. The below form should only take you a few minutes if everything is going well and a little longer if you have concerns. You can complete this weekly or once mid-placement. How often you complete this form will depend on your need, your preservice teachers and also how much time you have available (I know what a busy to-do list looks like!).
Supporting you in your role as mentor is equally important as supporting the preservice teacher. If you would like a chat, you can book a meeting with me. Either send me an email or go to the booking portal to book a 15-minute meeting. When you book, please let me know if you would like the meeting to be a phone call or onsite.
If it is a phone call, please leave your preferred number.
If it will be onsite, please meet me at the main office of your school.
If you require longer than 15-minutes, please send me an email with your preferred date and time, after checking the below calendar for my availability.
