What is FastForWord?

Fast ForWord is an evidence-based, adaptive reading and language program that delivers 1-2 years gain in 40-60 hours of use for any struggling learner. Schools choose Fast ForWord because the unique brain-based approach targets the root causes of reading difficulty to deliver lasting results that make better readers and lifelong learners.

Reading Readiness

Reading Readiness builds pre-reading skills. It helps students build the cognitive skills needed for reading, including:

It is the first reading program in the series. It is typically skipped by older children, but is a tremendous help for children who have not developed letter recognition skills. 


Reading Readiness has six exercises.


Foundations I

Foundations I has seven adaptive exercises that isolate and exercise working memory, attention stamina, processing or sequencing. At the student’s own pace each exercise adds speed and complexity, pulling him/her up towards language and reading proficiency. 


Fast ForWord Foundations I has seven exercises.

Foundations II

Foundations II continues on from Fast ForWord Foundations I with more complex cognitive skills training, and it introduces written language into the mix, to build a foundation for reading fluency and reading comprehension. The goal is automaticity, which improves listening comprehension accuracy and reading efficiency.


Fast ForWord Foundations II has five exercises.

Reading Level 1

Fast ForWord Reading Level 1 builds critical early reading skills, with an emphasis on phonemic awareness, early decoding skills, vocabulary knowledge and skills, and motivation for reading. The primary goal is to develop reading fluency.


Fast ForWord Reading Level 1 consists of 5 exercises.

Reading Level 2

While the main theme of Reading Level 2 is to develop the phonics, vocabulary, spelling, high frequency words and language skills required for reading fluency, it also strongly features analytical reading comprehension exercises aligned with Common Core State Standards.


Reading Level 2 consists of 5 exercises.


Reading Level 3

Reading Level 3 has three themes: reading comprehension, reading fluency and reading fundamentals.

Reading Comprehension ~ New!!

Reading Comprehension builds on the reading and cognitive skills developed in earlier Fast ForWord programs, with a focus on comprehension, including the ability to make inferences and think critically while reading.  This program expands reading comprehension skills through expansion of vocabulary and language structure knowledge and through exercises that develop higher level thinking while reading.


Reading Comprehension has 5 exercises.



Finishing a Game

When a student finishes 100% of a game, they will be one step closer to completing the program. When all games have been completed, they will have finished that program and are ready to move on!


Completion Certificate

When a student completes a program, they will take another RPI to place them in the next level according to their needs. They will also earn a completion certificate and class recognition!  Woohoo!!
