Paul Furtaw, PsyD, is a licensed psychologist who works primarily with medical professionals and other high-stakes performers in support of their mental health and professional success. He was recruited to the Rowan University School of Osteopathic Medicine (RowanSOM) Psychiatry's medical student mental health program in 2019 after working for over 30 years at a numerous health science and and healthcare institutions. That cumulative experience led to Dr. Furtaw's development of an innovative sport/performance psychology intervention for healthcare professionals as "elite mental athletes." His counseling and performance coaching services are highly sought after by RowanSOM and Cooper Medical School of Rowan University (CMSRU) medical students and residents, especially those preparing for national board examinations. Dr. Furtaw is known for his strong commitment to those students who historically, by virtue of structural inequity, societal bias, discrimination, and/or other institutional barriers, have been denied access to the healthcare professions as a career pathway despite their substantial talent and drive.
