Session Description: This session titled Racism in Pregnancy and Birth hopes to explore the intersection of identities such as race, income, education level, etc. and how they come together and impact birth outcomes for people of color and other minority groups.
2: The Real Student Perspective
Session Description: During this session current students of RowanSOM will speak on their medical school experience and how their race/ethnicity has impacted their time as a medical student. Additionally, this session will run through a few stimulated patient cases to familiarize participants with the experiences of marginalized persons in the healthcare setting.
3: Racism and LGBTQIA Health with Dr. Kristen Bertsch, Ph.D
Session Description: This session titled Racism and LGBTQIA Health aims to explore the intersection of LGBTQIA+ identities with race and how that impacts health outcomes for people who identify with this community.
4: Racism and Mental Health with Dr. Paul Furtaw
Session Description: This session titled Racism and Mental Health will explore the impact of Racism on medical training and practice as it relates to mental health, and how that then impacts various health outcomes.
5. Racism Throughout The Field: An Interprofessional Panel with Martha Chavis, CEO of Camden AHEC, Arlene Munoz, Director of Shore AHEC, Brian Thomas, PharmD, and Vanessa Atkins, Student Case Manager and Advisor
Session Description: Panelists from different aspects of the healthcare field will come together to describe how they’ve seen racism permeate through their respective professions and provide solutions and realistic possibilities for change.
