The career I have decided to pursue is teaching. I chose teaching as a career as I’ve always had interest in teaching since I was younger. This interest was spurred on by all the educators around me and the media I was consuming, like NEA magazines. I decided that this career field was right for me when I experienced the TAM ATEX class. It gave me insight as to what teaching was really like and the dedication it takes. I found myself more intrigued and curious than I ever have been about a work field.
The classes that I have taken thus far to help me achieve a career in teaching are child growth classes along with all honors classes. The program of studies I have taken to assist me in obtaining my dream is ATEX TAM. I have learned how the brain works, inner workings of the neuron, disabilities presented in children, history of teaching, teacher salary, the multiple intelligences, and enrichment for children.
I have participated in extracurricular activities like Civil Air Patrol. The Civil Air Patrol has taught me how to lead as well as follow directions and develop character. Other activities outside of school that I have participated in that will help me in my teaching career are volunteering and babysitting. I have been employed by my parents. What my job taught me that is useful in the future is patience, which is ideal when dealing with students.
Upon graduation from high school, my immediate plan is to pursue a teaching internship. Which would give me more background and experience, such as a teaching certification and hands-on experience. Along with continuing my education by taking college classes online to get my bachelor’s degree, the bare minimum in Maryland to be eligible as a teacher. I will likely remain in Maryland until my education is complete.
After achieving my goal, I will connect with my community by interacting with and shaping the students in my classroom.
I will help contribute to society by developing an area with peaceful and positive values. While attaining my dream of teaching won’t directly impact the world, I hope it will inspire others to find success. Which I find positive, you don’t have to change the world to make a slight difference.
