Coming into Drawing II, I never expected that I would end up doing this much painting. But the objects that I chose for my series would not have it any other way. Flowers are symbols of beauty, they are enticing and calming. This was the initial draw to them. Then, I chose the references photos with special interest in saturation, light source, as well as the memory behind them. Each flower has a story , a memory that sparked my desire to capture this story in picture form. If there is not a story behind the flower, then what is captured is simply a moment of pure happiness and gratitude of the beauty around me.
These were my intentions starting out. However, as the semester progressed, the more involved I became with color theory. Something totally unfamiliar to me. Yet, I have gleaned a lot of knowledge from the critiques of my peers, my professor, and as well as simple trial and error. The result is my best in creating a full color palette within each drawing.
My hope is that the viewer can find their self drawn in-- without quite understanding what has caught their attention. That they will be able to find a moment of calm within the unadulterated beauty of flowers and find a sense of peace.
