When Avinash learned that his school does not offer any personal finance classes, he was curious about how much the community knew about basic personal finance. To find the answer to this question, he decided to conduct a research study for publication. His results indicated that people in our community (both students and adults) possessed insufficient knowledge of basic financial skills such as saving, budgeting, investing, loans, taxes, etc. In response to this bewildering discovery, Avinash and his brother, Akash, launched Money Matters (MOMA) in their school to enlighten students about saving money, making wise investments in the stock market, tracking daily/weekly spending and curtailing it to stay within their budgets, planning for college expenses, and more! Other than this, Avinash enjoys being the Vice President of Charles Xavier’s Royal Chessnuts Academy (Rickards Chess Club), Parliamentarian of Future Business Leaders of America, Treasurer of Speech and Debate Club, and a proud member of Key Club as well as Model United Nations.
Akash co-founded the Rickards Money Matters Club with his brother, Avinash, because, while understanding finance is becoming more and more important in our world, many people are highly misinformed about finance, and our schools do not have k-12 level classes on financial skills. Outside of Money Matters, he is also the President of the Chess Club and an active member of other clubs such as Key Club and Model United Nations. Akash is conducting research for publication on misconceptions about heart disease. He hopes to one day become a socially responsible physician. Aside from his research, Akash's hobbies include swimming, playing piano, singing, practicing Taekwondo, and spending quality time with his family.
Danny is a sophomore at James Rickards High School. He joined Money Matters this year and within a couple meetings he was hooked. The topics that are discussed are valuable life skills. In addition with the competitions, it drives you to want to know more and become better at understanding the components that make someone successful with finance. He is also an active member of Science Olympiad, Model UN, Key Club, Dance Marathon, and the French Club.
Ankitha Madala is a sophomore and the social media officer of Money Matters. She joined Money Matters for a new experience and a place for her to be creative. Ankitha knew she wanted to join when she learned about all the work that needs to be done to get the club running but also by the big picture that the President and Vice President have for the club. From the club, she learned about many things that we should know about finance for our future. Ankitha wanted more people to join so they can benefit from it and enjoy it. She is an active member of many other clubs like Science Olympiad, Key Club, and Dance Marathon as well.
Ravi Doman is a sophomore and the secretary of Money Matters club. He started with this club as just a member, but in realizing how interesting and necessary the topics in the club are for students to know about he was happy to step up and become a bigger part of the club. Outside of MOMA, Ravi has had other past experiences managing and participating in clubs such as Robotics Club, Chinese Club, Key Club, Science Olympiad, and Chess Club.
I'm a mystery man.
