Application Deadline: Monday, March 1st, 2025
Incomplete applications will not be accepted
Applicants will receive an email acknowledgment within a week of submitting their application.
Age/Grade of Contestants is determined as of September 1, 2024
Warm-up and rehearsal rooms will be provided on the day of the competition, exact times will be assigned two weeks prior to the competition date.
Eligibility Requirements: Applicants must be enrolled in a learning institution in the state of Kentucky.
Awards: 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and two Honorable Mention awards are available. Cash awards are $300 for 1st Prize, $200 for 2nd Prize, $100 for 3rd Prize, and $50 for Honorable Mention.
Repertoire Changes: No repertoire changes will be accepted.
Limits on Enrollment: Only the first 30 applications received will be accepted. If fewer than three applications are received the event will be canceled. The applicants will be notified and fully-refunded.
Submitting an application by the deadline does not guarantee that space to participate will be available.
Complete applications received after a category is full will be placed on a waitlist.
A full-refund of the application fee will be returned if all spots are filled
Compliance: By submitting your application, you agree to submit an honest and complete application, to follow the procedures and rules for performance, and (if applicable) to secure a collaborative pianist prior to submitting your application.
Musical Scores: Two copies of the music must be provided for the judges.
Collaborative Pianist: Richmond Virtuosi will provide an accompanist if needed, for an additional $70. You will see this as an option in the PayPal link.
A pianist can be provided for the competition. If you choose to use your own pianist, please indicate this in your application and pay the $30 registration fee.
If using Richmond Virtuosi's accompanist; a piano score must be provided along with the application form. If the piano score is not submitted in the application, the contestant forfeits the use of the competition's pianist.
If your selection is an unaccompanied work (e.g. Bach’s Partita for Solo Violin), please indicate in your application that you will not need a collaborative pianist for your audition.
Pieces that have an accompaniment part must have piano accompaniment in the competition.
Performance Requirements:
Literature: Prepare one complete stand alone piece, or a complete movement of a multi-movement piece.
Students are highly encouraged to wear formal clothes at the in-person competition, although there is no specific dress code.
Memorization is not required to participate, but is encouraged.
Repertoire Requirements:
Repeats are optional.
If choosing a sonata, please include the opus number and key. Also indicate the specific movement(s) that you are performing by number and tempo (e.g. Brahms, Johannes: Cello Sonata in E minor, Op. 38, Mvt. 3, “Allegro”).
• Performance repertoire must be chosen according to the classifications required by the Richmond Virtuosi rules.
• Competitors must compete in-person.
