Instructions for Marshalls for TT

Our TT series depends on help from volunteers. If you would like to take part then please help out occasionally as well.

Each event needs 3 marshals. A starter, middle marshal, and timekeeper. Instructions are below.

STARTER

  1. Starter.
    • Before you set off…
      • Check the weather. If it’s very poor and there are unlikely to be more than 5 riders, then cancel by posting on Facebook and WhatsApp.
      • Confirm that the middle marshal and timekeeper are going to turn up! Use WhatApp or give them a call.
      • Print out signing on sheet, start / finish time recording sheet and sign on cover sheet.
      • Check you have numbers and zip ties for new riders - contact Sven (07866755590), Gordon (07834567715) or Geoff (07870234582) if you haven’t got them.
      • Check you have a few £1 coins for change.
      • Check your phone has a clock app with seconds - check this is synchronised with the timekeeper’s phone.
    • Arrive at start at 1845
    • Set out signing on sheet, numbers etc on the wall so people can sign on and pay £4.
    • When everyone has signed on, get them to line up roughly slowest to fastest and start them at 1 min intervals. Record their number and start time.
    • If you’re riding, then get everything into your pockets and set off - don’t forget to note your start time - can be more than 1 min after the last rider!
    • If you’re not riding, then drive back to the start and give the start times to person doing the spreadsheet.

2. MIDDLE MARSHAL

    • At approx 1825, pick up signs and hi-vis from Gordon's house: The signs are poking out from under the fence at the top of the drive.
    • Set out 3 signs:
    • Marske Bridge. Sign is for drivers approaching the A6108 from Marske. Bungee it to the sign in the picture - opposite the T junction.

Downholme junction - Bungee it to one of the fence posts just before the junction on the left. One of the 3 signs has eyelets on the left for this, rather than in the middle.

Just before Fremington Bridge, up at the start. Bungee it to the sign in the picture.

3. TIMEKEEPER

    • Before you set off:
      • Print off finish time recording sheet.
      • Check your phone has a clock app with seconds - check this is synchronised with the starter’s phone!
      • At approx 1910 you need to be in position at the 30 signs by the cemetery:
  • You will receive a message from the starter saying how many riders there are. Note this down.
  • As each rider passes, note their number and finishing time, to the nearest second. They should shout their number to you as they pass.
  • If you don’t see their number, then note a distinguishing feature eg helmet colour etc. then get their number later.
  • If a few riders finish together, then just do your best. You could take a photo which will have a time stamp on it, or a lap timer, but don’t overcomplicate it!
  • When the last rider has come through, then pass the finishing times to the person who’s doing the spreadsheet.

THANK YOU!
