Now is a difficult time for many people financially. If you aren't able to donate money, that is okay. However, there is still a way you can support BLM organizations. Zoe Amira, a black YouTuber, put up a video that showcases music and art from black creators: Stream to Donate. It has ads before and throughout the video, and every last cent of ad revenue the video generates will be split among a number of BLM organizations dependent on necessity. Additionally, in the video description, Amira links petitions related to those who lost their lives as a result of police brutality, and other ways to help.
In order to make sure your watchtime counts:
Don’t skip the ads! The video will receive heavily reduced, or even no AdSense revenue unless the ads are watched in full.
Make sure you are able to see all the in-video ads. This involves turning off adblockers, and if you are on mobile, be sure to use the YouTube app, rather than searching for it in a browser.
Make sure the volume on the video itself is above zero. If you want to leave it running, you can manually mute the tab it is in, but YouTube needs to see that at least within its client it is being heard.
Replay it! Let the video run to completion, click out/close the tab, wait a few minutes, and open it again. It is important to wait a few minutes between watches, because simply playing it on loop will lead YouTube to count it as spam, and not allow you to watch the ads. Maybe listen to a couple of your favorite songs in between, then put it back on.
YouTube ads tend to average out to about $0.18 each. You aren’t just donating fractions of pennies. Put the video on in a tab on your computer and leave it to repeat. Phones or tablets that aren’t seeing use? Those have their use now.
