Requirements & Timeline

NHS Requirements 

1. Scholarship

• Students must have a minimum cumulative unweighted GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale.

• GPA is verified through an official transcript.

2. Leadership 

• Candidates must demonstrate leadership in school or community activities.

• This includes holding positions of responsibility or showing initiative in group settings, projects, or organizations.

3. Service

• Candidates must have participated in voluntary contributions to the school or community without compensation.

• This may include tutoring, volunteering, organizing drives, community projects, etc. 

• Our chapter requires at least 30 hours of community service. 

4. Character

• Candidates must demonstrate honesty, reliability, courtesy, concern for others, and respect for people and property. 

• Discipline records, teacher recommendations, and observed conduct are reviewed to assess character. 

• Candidates are required to submit at least 3-5 professional and/or academic character references. 

Other National Requirements 

• Candidates must be enrolled in grades 10 through 12 (freshmen are not eligible). 

• Students must have attended the school for at least one semester. 

• Selection is made by the Faculty Council, not by student vote or automatic GPA qualification. 

• Membership is based on a faculty evaluation of all four pillars (Scholarship, Leadership, Service, Character).
