ZWO 5 Position Filter Wheel ZWO came up with this high quality 5-position filter wheel, but in addition to visual use, the main features of this filter wheel suggest that it has been designed mainly for astro photography. Up to five filters can be installed in the numbered compartments that feature standard 1.25" filter thread, and each can be selected for your eyepiece or camera by simply rotating the inner wheel to any of the five click-stop positions. Unlike in the case of many competing products, it is very easy to turn the wheel that helps to keep your object intact. It is not a problem with motorised filter wheels, but if it's difficult to turn a manual filter wheel, it is possible to knock the telescope off of position... so it's better to have a filter wheel that turns smoothly. The filter wheel can be attached to your focuser either by the supplied 1.25” nosepiece adaptor or via a T-thread. There is actually a female T-thread on both sides of the filter wheel. One compartment can be left empty for unfiltered viewing. The robustly constructed filter wheel is supplied with a 1.25” nosepiece, 1.25” eyepiece holder with brass compression ring, T-2 camera adapter and locking ring. Please note: your focuser will require 19mm of inward focusing distance from the normal focus position to compensate for the thickness of the filter wheel. This filter wheel will be a good addition to any ZWO CMOS USB Camera that we sell (please make sure that your telescope otherwise have enough back focus, of course, e.g. Newtonian telescopes would usually have a back focus issue, unless modified or specially designed for astro photograpy...)
ZWO ASI1600MM-Cool USB 3.0 Cooled Monochrome CMOS CameraThis is an exciting moment as with this NEW ZWO ASI1600MM-C camera, ZWO made its debut into the DSO imager camera market. The ZWO ASI1600MM COOLED camera is an excellent choice for imaging deep sky objects, however it can do much more than that. With a max framerate of 23 FPS this camera can also be used as an extremely high resolution planetary imager. If you cannot decide if your thing is deep sky or planetary imaging, go for this camera. This version has built-in active cooling that helps to reduce electronic noise to the minimum. In order to image in colour with this monochrome camera, a filterwheel and L-RGB Filters will be required. You can also image in Narrowband with relevant narrowband filters. Please note that the sensor diagonal size is very close to the internal clear aperture of a 1.25" filter, therefore with fast telescopes (small f-ratio) there might be vignetting. The limiting focal ratio with the ZWO manual filter wheel depends on the thickness of the filter glass that you use, and its clear aperture. The latter is usually 24mm for 1.25" filters. Filter glass thickness: 2mm Limiting focal ratio: f/8.5 - lower will give vignetting 3mm Limiting focal ratio: f/9 - lower will give vignetting 4mm Limiting focal ratio: f/9.5 - lower will give vignetting Above are approximate figures as the filter's actual position within its housing will also influence the calculation. As you can see from the above, a combination of this camera with a ZWO 1.25" or similar 1.25"filter wheel would work well with Schmidt-Cassegrain or slower telescopes, but for fast refractors and reflectors, F6 and lower, a filter wheel that can accept 31mm filters would be better suited as that would allow much lower focal ratio limits: f/2.8, f/3 and f/3.2 respectively.
