Hi there, my name is Aaron Richardson and I am your instructor for LR10. I have been a librarian at SCC for about 5 years, and a college Humanities teacher before that. I am currently working from home-- like the rest of you (and the rest of the most of the world). I'm available by email or if you want we can do a Google Meet or Zoom meeting if there is something you'd like to discuss "in-person".
My view is that education is for freedom-- that freedom of mind which enables us to attain to the highest and best version of yourself. It is through discipline, the various disciplines of education, and the pursuit of excellence that we are able to become free. And-- ultimately-- this disciplined freedom aims at happiness, our greatest good.
My role is to support you in attaining an education, an excellent education, one that aims at the highest things.
Though the course is online, the skills we will acquire are equally real. This is "the real world" to the extent that we invest our mental and emotional energy in the work we do.
If you ever need any help, I am here for you.
An information literate person is one who knows when information is needed, how to search for and find it, how to evaluate it for trustworthiness and relevant, and how to use it in a responsible, ethical way. Our aim here is to become attain a higher and higher level of information= literacy.
This syllabus is designed to be mobile-friendly and provide you with essential information to support you with a successful start in this course. This syllabus is provided as a website so you can easily access it from your smartphone. I encourage you to bookmark it on your phone so it's easy to find and reference when you need it.

We can also schedule a Zoom meeting to chat 'in-person' but normally emails get the job done.
You can ask questions there for this class, or ANY class you're taking.
There's a Solano College librarian "on desk" 7 days a week to answer your questions. (I'm on Thursdays 12-3!) And there are librarians on 24/7 that have access to our library's tools and FAQs, so you can always get help for this class, or any class, any time.
