The Rice Players seek to provide and inspire quality theater through educational opportunities. We are an (almost) entirely student-run theatre company committed to producing relevant, entertaining, and engaging theatre for the Rice community and the greater Houston area.
The Rice Players are Houston’s oldest student-run theatre company. We typically put on two full productions each year (one each semester), as well as a number of smaller events throughout the season, including Play in a Day, alumni events, and staged readings. We are an extracurricular, student-run theatre troupe associated with Rice's Program in Theatre and the Department of Humanities at Rice University. Professor Rob Kimbro serves as faculty advisor.
For more about Rice Players’ past, see A History of Theater at Rice, a 2007 lecture by former Players director Neil “Sandy” Havens, professor emeritus, covering the original Rice Dramatic Society, its 1951 renaissance as the Rice Players, and a long history of bringing challenging theatre to Houston audiences.
