A look around the globe at rice farming approaches.
Around the world, communities are transforming the way they farm rice. Explore more below!
The Thai Rice Project in partnership with the Green Climate Fund (GCF) focuses on resilient, low-emissions production systems. The project works across various emissions-heavy steps of the process including straw burning, field flooding, and integrated pest management to reimagine how rice is grown.
At the LSU AgCenter researchers are developing rice varieties that are able to withstand the strain imposed by climate change. Species are being cultivated to grow in drier, higher salinity environments while increasing yield and reducing the cost of cultivation.
Learning from innovations across the world allows us to understand what works in specific regions and determine what can be scaled or adapted elsewhere. By mobilizing climate finance, strengthening regulatory frameworks, centering farmer livelihoods, and fostering knowledge sharing, we can move toward a more sustainable and equitable global rice production system!
