How ROLA was Founded
Renee Wang founded ROLA as a result of the lack of music opportunities she faced at her high school. As a pianist, her school district offered no courses or extracurriculars for piano. As a result, she decided to utilize her daily musical commitment and talent through ROLA, as a way of giving back to her community. She proposed the idea of creating a community-based organization where student musicians could direct their talents for a good cause, and soon, ROLA was in action. Furthermore, by contacting her out-of-state friends online and proposing the idea of creating new chapters, ROLA has created chapters in Washington and North Carolina where students in different countries work for the same cause.
Since then, ROLA has consisted of busy student musicians who devote their time to spreading their talents within the community at elderly homes, memory care centers, and pre-schools throughout the country.
