If you want a dedicated, waterproof device for serious laps and pool sessions that works without a phone, choose Rhyfell Bone Conduction Swimming; if you need versatile, all-day earbuds with an extended battery life for running, gym work, or casual listening on land, choose Boytond Open Ear Earbuds. This is not a tie between two similar options; they are engineered for fundamentally different environments, and picking the wrong one means compromising either your safety in the water or your comfort during long wear.
• Rhyfell: Its biggest strength is true IP68 swim-proof certification allowing full submersion up to 5 meters, but its trade-off is a fixed 10-hour battery life with no charging case for refills. It is for the athlete who needs a standalone MP3 player for the pool.
• Boytond: Its biggest strength is a massive 50-hour total playtime via a portable charging case and lightweight clip-on design, but its trade-off is that it lacks deep-water waterproofing for swimming. It is for the runner or commuter who prioritizes battery longevity and everyday comfort.
The Rhyfell Fit 5 is built with a singular, aggressive purpose: it is a tool for the water. When I look at the specifications, the first thing that stands out is the IP68 rating, which isn't just splash resistance; it is a certified capability to be fully submerged up to 2-5 meters. This distinction matters immensely for anyone who treats swimming as a primary workout rather than a leisurely dip. Most "waterproof" headphones on the market only survive splashes or rain, but this unit is designed to handle the pressure of underwater movement. The inclusion of 32GB of built-in storage is equally critical here. Because Bluetooth signals do not travel well through water, this device allows you to bypass your phone entirely. You can load over 8,000 songs directly onto the unit and dive straight in. There is no lag, no signal loss, and no need to tether your workout to a device floating at the edge of the pool deck.
The physical design reinforces this aquatic focus. Weighing in at just 28 grams, the frame uses liquid silicone material to ensure a secure fit that won't slip even when you are turning your head rapidly during flips or treading water. The open-ear bone conduction driver transmits sound through your cheekbones, which keeps your ears open to hear ambient sounds like a lifeguard whistle or other swimmers, a non-negotiable safety feature in crowded pools. However, this specialization comes with a clear limitation. The 10-hour battery life is substantial for a single charge, but there is no carrying case to extend that time. Once the battery drains, the device is dead until you find a power source. It is also a dedicated MP3 player first; while it has Bluetooth 6.0 for surface use, its core value proposition is the internal memory and waterproof shell. If you are looking for sweat resistant in ear headphones for side sleepers, this might feel too bulky and specialized for that specific use case compared to lighter, flatter alternatives, though the soft silicone does offer some comfort.

This product is ideal for triathletes, competitive swimmers, or surfers who need a self-contained audio experience. It is for the person who wants to leave their phone in the locker room and take their entire music library into the water. Conversely, if your workouts are mostly dry land-based or if you need a device that seamlessly switches between a morning run, a commute, and a quick gym session without worrying about charging cycles, the lack of a charging case makes this less practical than a paired system.
In stark contrast, the Boytond S30i is designed for the chaotic energy of daily life and high-intensity terrestrial exercise. Its defining feature is the sheer endurance provided by the charging case. While the earbuds themselves offer 10 hours of playback, the inclusion of a case that adds another 40 hours brings the total to an impressive 50 hours. This is a game-changer for users who hate the ritual of daily charging. Whether you are a long-distance runner, a hiker, or someone who wears audio devices throughout their entire workday, the ability to go nearly a week on a single charge (with the case) eliminates anxiety about power. The 16.3mm dynamic drivers are also worth noting; they aim to deliver a more realistic stereo experience than standard bone conduction, capturing nuances in vocals and instruments that might get lost in lower-fidelity drivers.
The form factor is an over-the-ear hook design that sits lightly on the helix of the ear. This ergonomic shape is specifically crafted to stay put during vigorous movement, yet remain breathable enough to reduce sweat buildup—a common complaint with sealed in-ear devices. The Bluetooth 5.3 connectivity ensures a stable connection within a 33-foot range, and the touch controls allow for intuitive management of calls and music without fumbling with buttons. The open-ear design here serves a dual purpose: situational awareness for outdoor safety and the ability to hold conversations without removing the device. This makes them excellent for ear clip headphones for side sleepers who might find traditional bulky headsets uncomfortable, although the hook shape may still interfere with some sleeping positions depending on pillow height. They are also a strong contender for those seeking the best in ear earbuds for side sleepers who prioritize a low-profile fit that doesn't press hard against the ear canal, offering a middle ground between in-ear isolation and open-air comfort.
However, the trade-off is clear: these are not for swimming. While they have a waterproof design suitable for heavy sweat and rain, they lack the IP68 certification required for submersion. If you plan to wear them in the pool, you risk water damage. Furthermore, the reliance on a charging case adds bulk to your pocket or bag, whereas the Rhyfell is a single, streamlined unit. These are best for the user who values versatility and battery life over specialized aquatic performance.
• Best for swimming and underwater audio → Rhyfell Bone Conduction Swimming (IP68 rating and internal 32GB storage make it the only viable option for pool training).
• Best for battery life and travel → Boytond Open Ear Earbuds (50-hour total capacity with a charging case beats any standalone unit).
• Best for fast charging needs → Boytond Open Ear Earbuds (5 minutes of charging provides 1 hour of playback, a speed the Rhyfell does not specify).
• Best for standalone fitness tracking → Rhyfell Bone Conduction Swimming (No phone needed for music due to built-in storage; Bluetooth 6.0 offers zero-delay sync on land).
• Best for sound fidelity and clarity → Boytond Open Ear Earbuds (16.3mm dynamic drivers offer a more immersive stereo experience than standard bone conduction).
• Best for contact sports and high impact → Rhyfell Bone Conduction Swimming (28g weight and liquid silicone grip are optimized for high-intensity motion).
• Best for all-day wear and social interaction → Boytond Open Ear Earbuds (Touch controls and breathability make it easier to converse and manage calls on the go).
• Best for minimalist carry → Rhyfell Bone Conduction Swimming (Single unit with no case to lose or forget).
I would personally buy the Rhyfell Bone Conduction Swimming if my primary goal was to improve my swimming technique and enjoy uninterrupted music while in the water. The ability to submerge the device and rely on internal storage removes the friction of managing a phone in a wet environment. However, for general daily use, side sleepers, and runners, I would choose the Boytond Open Ear Earbuds. Their 50-hour battery life and comfortable, breathable clip-on design make them far more practical for a lifestyle that involves moving from the gym to the office to the park. If you are torn, ask yourself where you spend most of your active time: if it is in the water, Rhyfell is the only choice; if it is on land, Boytond offers superior versatility and endurance.
The Boytond Open Ear Earbuds are generally better suited for side sleepers due to their lightweight, flexible hook design that avoids sealing the ear canal, reducing pressure points compared to bulkier models.
Yes, the Rhyfell is IP68 waterproof, meaning it can handle heavy rain and sweat, but it is primarily optimized for swimming rather than general running.
Unlike the Rhyfell, the Boytond earbuds do not have internal storage and rely entirely on a Bluetooth connection to a smartphone or other device to stream music.
The Boytond features advanced drivers designed for crystal-clear communication and face-to-face conversation experiences, making it likely superior for calls compared to the Rhyfell's swim-focused design.
