As of now, Rhodes is under an emergency state due to the ongoing fire in the South part of the island. While some disruptions may occur, tourists can still visit Rhodes by exercising caution and staying away from the affected fire sites. For real-time updates on the fire location, we have a "Trackers" page on our website to help you plan your trip safely.
Fortunately, the city center and the North side of the island remain largely unaffected, offering tourists opportunities to explore and enjoy their time on Rhodes. You can still indulge in various activities, visit historical sites, and bask in the beauty of the island's pristine beaches. By doing so, you also contribute to supporting the local businesses that greatly appreciate your presence during these challenging times.
As always, safety should be your top priority. Stay informed about any changes in the situation and follow the advice of local authorities to ensure a pleasant and secure experience during your visit to Rhodes.
Public transportation is currently operational, but there might be disruptions in services due to the ongoing fires. For bus schedules, you can find all the necessary information here. Additionally, information about taxi services can be found here.
Considering the situation, we highly recommend renting a car if possible, especially if you plan to travel outside the city of Rhodes. Renting a car will provide you with flexibility and the ability to access areas that may be less impacted by the fires. However, please refrain from driving to the areas affected by fires for the following reasons:
Highly Dangerous: Driving to fire-affected areas poses significant risks to your safety and the safety of emergency responders. Fire conditions can change rapidly, leading to unpredictable hazards on the roads.
Minimizing Traffic: To support emergency services and local communities, we urge visitors to avoid adding to the traffic in fire-affected regions. By doing so, you contribute to smoother evacuation processes and better access for those involved in firefighting and relief efforts.
However, if you prefer to stay within the city center, there are beautiful beaches available for you to enjoy without the need for transportation beyond public options. Please stay informed about the latest updates on the fires and consider your safety when making your travel plans.
Best beaches to visit right now unaffected by fires:
Lindos Beach: Located on the south-eastern coast of the island, Lindos Beach is a picturesque destination with crystal-clear waters and a stunning view of the ancient Acropolis. Enjoy the serene ambiance and relax under the sun without any worries about fire-related disruptions.
North Side of the Island: The northern side of the island is home to several beautiful beaches, each offering a unique experience. From secluded coves to family-friendly shores, you can explore beaches like Agios Pavlos, Tsambika, and Stegna, which remain unaffected by the fires and are ready to welcome visitors.
Traganou Beach: Tucked away on the eastern coast, Traganou Beach is known for its natural beauty, clear waters, and tranquil atmosphere. It's an ideal spot to unwind and escape from the concerns of fire-affected areas.
Afandou Beach: Situated near the village of Afandou, this long and sandy beach is perfect for those seeking a quiet and peaceful beach day. It's far from the regions affected by fires and provides a safe and enjoyable environment for beachgoers.
Faliraki Beach: While Faliraki is known for its vibrant nightlife, its beach remains a popular destination for sun-seekers during the day. Enjoy the lively atmosphere and refreshing sea breeze, as this area remains untouched by the recent fires.
These beaches offer fantastic opportunities to enjoy the beauty of Rhodes without concerns about fire-related impacts. Relax, soak up the sun, and take in the breathtaking coastal scenery while knowing you're visiting safe and unaffected locations.
As of now, the Air Quality Index (AQI) in Rhodes is at 51, which falls within the "Moderate" category. According to the United States Environmental Protection Agency's website, air quality in this range is considered acceptable, but there may be some health concerns for a small number of unusually sensitive individuals. However, the risk to the general public is minimal, and the air quality is still considered good overall.
For accurate and up-to-date information on the AQI in Rhodes, we recommend checking the IQAir website. Monitoring the AQI regularly will help you stay informed about any changes in air quality and make informed decisions regarding outdoor activities, especially if you have respiratory conditions or other health sensitivities.
Please remember to take any necessary precautions and prioritize your health and well-being while enjoying your time in Rhodes. If you have specific health concerns or conditions, it's always a good idea to consult with a healthcare professional for personalized advice during your stay.
