Smartphone chat apps are ubiquitous in Filipino daily communication. Even pre-pandemic, it has been used by trainees to update consultants due to its ease of use. There is potential for chat apps as a low-cost, objective assessment tool in rheumatology training. The social media app Viber has a feature to create poll questions which can be converted into a quiz by a toggle switch. Correct answers were given as soon as fellows clicked their answers. No time limit for past questions was imposed. Correct answers were marked by a green check icon and a confetti animation. Wrong answers were marked by a red x-icon. 

Smartphone chat applications can be a teaching adjunct. Features such as the poll can be turned into a quiz-type message and be used as a supplement for trainee's basic and clinical knowledge of rheumatology. Although answers are anonymous. Instructors may use this as a general assessment tool to determine weak areas and refocus teaching topics.
