This privacy policy applies to the "Rhea Cam" apps for Android, for iPhone and iPad, and for macOS (the "Apps"), including the Rhea Studio screen recorder in the macOS app. It is based on the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (nDSG/revFADP) and, where applicable, the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
Schweizerpunkt GmbH, Gotthelfstrasse 41, 8172 Niederglatt, Switzerland
Email: datenschutz@schweizerpunkt.ch
The Apps do not collect any personal data for Schweizerpunkt GmbH. We receive no data from your use of the Apps.
There is no user account and no sign-up.
We do not use any analytics, advertising or tracking services.
There is no cloud processing and no upload of your videos, recordings or documents to us or to third parties. Video is sent directly over your local network from your phone to your Mac.
Recordings (on the phone, in the Mac app and with Rhea Studio), scanned documents, meeting minutes and teleprompter scripts are stored only on your own devices.
The document scanner and text recognition work on the phone. On Android, Google provides the scanner through Google Play services; Google receives technical usage data (section 6), but not your documents.
Speech recognition, translation, meeting notes, face tracking for effects and person detection for the background run directly on your Mac using Apple's on-device features.
For the Apps to work, the following data is processed exclusively on your devices and within your local network. Schweizerpunkt GmbH has no access to it.
The live camera video from your phone is sent over your local network directly to your Mac and is encrypted (WebRTC). No server is involved.
The live camera video is not stored, unless you start a recording yourself (sections 4.2 to 4.4) or save a page with the document camera (section 4.9).
On Android, the phone can keep sending the camera video while the screen is locked or the app is in the background. While it does, Android shows a notification with a Stop button. Pocket mode only turns the screen black; no additional data is processed.
When you select the "Rhea Cam" camera in a video calling app (for example Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Google Meet or FaceTime), macOS passes the camera picture to that app. Processing by those apps is governed by their own privacy policies.
If you start a recording on the phone, or from the Mac app for the connected phone, the phone records video and, if you choose, sound from its microphone.
The recording is first stored in the app's own storage on the phone. When you stop, it is transferred over your local network directly to the paired Mac and saved there in the "Movies" folder (subfolder "Rhea Cam"). After a successful transfer, the copy on the phone is deleted.
If the transfer is not possible, the recording remains in the app's storage on the phone until you uninstall the app or delete its data.
While the phone records, it sends small preview images to the paired Mac so you can see what is being recorded. They are not stored.
If you start a recording in the Mac app, the camera picture (with effects and captions) or the original video from the phone is saved only on your Mac in the "Movies" folder, optionally with sound from the Mac microphone you selected.
Rhea Studio records tutorial and explainer videos. For this, the following is processed on your Mac only to create the recording: the content of the screen or window you choose, the pointer position and your mouse clicks, sound from the microphone you choose, sound played by your Mac if you turn this on, and the picture of the camera bubble (from your phone or, if you choose it, your Mac's own camera).
The finished movie is saved only on your Mac in the "Movies" folder. Next to it, a file with a click log is saved (time, position and button of each click, the screen and the name of the app you clicked in). Keyboard input is not recorded.
Recordings and click logs are never sent to Schweizerpunkt GmbH or to third parties. Please note that a screen recording can contain everything visible on the recorded screen or window, including notifications or personal data of other people. You alone decide what you record and what happens to these files.
For live captions, the sound from the microphone you select is processed on your Mac. Speech recognition and translation take place on the Mac using Apple's on-device features.
The audio is not recorded, stored or uploaded for this purpose.
The same applies when the teleprompter follows your voice and when the director switches cameras by voice. For the director, the microphone is only evaluated for whether someone is speaking or not.
The captions are burned into the camera picture. Like your camera picture, they are therefore visible to the participants in your video call.
Audio is stored only if you start a recording (sections 4.2 to 4.4). It is then part of that recording on your device.
The language models are downloaded once from Apple (see section 6).
So that your phone can find and connect to your Mac, the device name and local IP address are exchanged within your local network. This data does not leave your local network.
The phone remembers up to 8 recently used computers. This list is stored only on the phone.
You can choose effects such as colour filters, stickers, funny mirrors and party effects on the phone or on the Mac. They are applied only on your Mac.
Face detection for stickers and funny mirrors runs exclusively on your Mac (Apple Vision) while such an effect is active.
No face data or images are stored or transmitted for this purpose.
When you scan documents, the pages are captured with the camera, detected, straightened and cleaned up. On Android, this is done by Google's document scanner (ML Kit), which Google Play services provides on your device and downloads once the first time you use it. On iPhone and iPad, the Apps use Apple's document scanner (VisionKit).
If you choose "Recognise text", the text of the pages is recognised on the phone (Android: Google ML Kit, iPhone/iPad: Apple Vision) and added to the PDF so that it is searchable.
The PDF, a thumbnail and a small file with the page count are stored in the app's storage on the phone (on iPhone and iPad visible in the Files app). You can open, rename or delete scans there, or pass them on with your device's share function.
If you choose "Send to the Mac", the PDF is transferred over your local network directly to the paired Mac as soon as the phone is connected to it, and saved there in the "Pictures" folder (subfolder "Rhea Cam").
Your documents and the recognised text are never sent to Schweizerpunkt GmbH. For the technical usage data that Google Play services sends to Google on Android, see section 6.
Up to four phones can be connected to the Mac at the same time. The director chooses which picture is shown; switching by voice works as described in section 4.5.
For the look (blurring or replacing the background, "Only me", better lighting, follow mode), the camera picture is analysed on your Mac, for example to separate people from the background (Apple Vision). No images or personal data are stored or transmitted for this. A background picture, logo and name banner text you choose are stored locally on the Mac.
The document camera straightens paper, whiteboards and screens in the camera picture. Pages you save with "Save page" are stored on your Mac in the "Pictures" folder (subfolder "Rhea Cam").
Teleprompter scripts are stored only on your Mac.
With "Translate the others", Rhea Cam listens to the audio of your video call through the macOS permission "Screen & System Audio Recording", recognises and translates it on the Mac and shows the translation in a window only you can see. The audio is not stored.
If you start meeting minutes, what both sides say is written down as text and stored on your Mac; no audio is stored. Notes and summaries are created by Apple Intelligence on the Mac. Minutes can contain personal data of other participants. Please inform them beforehand, as the app also recommends. You can delete minutes in the app at any time.
Your settings, for example appearance, language, quality, bitrate, translation languages, selected effects, look, director, scan options and Rhea Studio options, are stored only locally on the respective device.
Data stored locally remains on your devices until you delete it, for example by deleting recordings in the "Movies" folder, pages and scans in the "Pictures" folder, scans or meeting minutes in the app, or by uninstalling the app. Scans waiting to be sent to the Mac remain on the phone until they are sent or deleted.
The Apps only ask for permissions that their features require:
Camera (phone): to capture the camera picture, to make recordings on the phone and to scan documents on iPhone and iPad. On Android, the document scanner uses the camera through Google Play services; Rhea Cam needs no permission of its own for it.
Microphone (phone): only for sound in recordings you make on the phone. Recording without sound is possible without this permission.
Local network (phone and Mac): to find the devices, connect them and transfer phone recordings and scans to the Mac.
Notifications and foreground service (Android): so the camera can keep sending with the screen locked; meanwhile Android shows a notification with a Stop button.
Microphone and speech recognition (Mac): for live captions, the teleprompter, meeting minutes, switching cameras by voice and for the sound of recordings, including Rhea Studio.
Camera access (Mac): a technical requirement for providing the "Rhea Cam" virtual camera. Your Mac's built-in camera is only used if you choose it for the camera bubble in Rhea Studio.
Screen and system audio recording (Mac): for Rhea Studio, to record the screen or window you choose and, if you turn it on, the sound of your Mac, and for meetings, to translate and take minutes of the call audio.
System extension (Mac): to provide the "Rhea Cam" virtual camera.
Movies and Pictures folders (Mac): to save recordings, document pages and received scans.
You can revoke permissions at any time in your device settings. The affected features will then no longer be available.
Apple: when you download or update apps from the App Store, use iOS or macOS, download language models for speech recognition and translation or use Apple Intelligence, Apple processes data under its own privacy policy.
Google: when you download or update apps from Google Play and use Android, Google processes data under its own privacy policy.
Google Play services (Android, document scanner): the document scanner and text recognition come from Google (ML Kit) and are provided through Google Play services. The pages are processed on your device. According to Google, these components send technical usage and diagnostic data to Google in encrypted form, for example device model, Android version, app name and version, per-installation identifiers, performance values and error codes. Google uses this data to operate and improve the components. We do not receive this data. The Apps only use these components when you scan documents.
Crash reports: only if you have enabled sharing of diagnostic and crash data with Apple or Google at operating system level, technical crash reports may reach us via Apple or Google. We use them solely to fix errors.
Video calling apps: apps in which you use the "Rhea Cam" camera are governed by their own privacy policies (see section 4.1).
Our public web pages for this privacy policy and support are hosted with Google Sites. When you visit them, Google processes data under its own privacy policy. The Apps themselves do not use Google Sites.
We do not sell data, do not share data with third parties, do not show advertising and do not create profiles.
The Apps are not directed at children. As the Apps do not transmit any data to us, we do not collect any data from children either. The effects are a general feature of the Apps. There is no chat, no advertising and no user account in the Apps.
As we do not receive any personal data from the Apps, we do not transfer any personal data abroad. Apple and Google (including Google Play services) process data under their own responsibility and may do so outside Switzerland and the EU, for example in the USA.
The connection between phone and Mac is made directly within your local network. No cloud server is used.
The live camera video is encrypted (WebRTC). Setting up the connection, the preview images during a phone recording and the transfer of finished phone recordings and scanned documents to the Mac take place directly within your local network without additional encryption.
We therefore recommend using the Apps only on trusted networks and appropriately protecting your devices, where recordings, scans and minutes are stored.
If you contact us by email, we process your email address and the content of your message in order to answer your request. Where the GDPR applies, we rely on Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (contract or pre-contractual measures) or Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in answering enquiries). We delete this data as soon as it is no longer needed, unless statutory retention obligations apply.
Under the nDSG and, where applicable, the GDPR, you have in particular the following rights:
Access to your personal data
Rectification of inaccurate data
Erasure
Restriction of processing
Objection to processing
Data portability
Withdrawal of consent with effect for the future
As we do not receive any data from the Apps, we are generally unable to link any data to you. For requests, please contact: datenschutz@schweizerpunkt.ch
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority. In Switzerland, this is the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC). In the EU and EEA, it is in particular the supervisory authority where you live.
We may update this privacy policy when the Apps or legal requirements change. The current version applies. It is available in the Apps and at https://sites.google.com/view/rheacam-datenschutz/privacy
