Acts are the largest unit of story, followed by Chapters, and then by Scenes.
To add a new Act, Chapter, or Scene, select the line that you want the new story element to begin After and click New Act, New Chapter, or New Scene. Remember that Stage Backgrounds are bound to the Scene and will disappear if a new Scene begins.

In Rolegate, you only have access to the dice that were added to the game by the GM. To see what dice are available, click the die icon in the bottom right and all available dice will be displayed.
The default dice list
If you are the GM, you can add new dice sets by opening the Overflow Menu in the top right > Game Settings > Scroll down to Dice Sets > Click Add dice set > Click Community Sets > Search for Zocchi Dice > Click the result to add to the game.

Stage Backgrounds are a feature only available to subscribers, if you aren’t a subscriber you won’t be able to change the stage background.
To change the background: Click any character on the Stage > In the menu that appears at the bottom, select the Globe Icon > In the list of backgrounds that appear, select the one you want.
Remember that stage backgrounds are bound to the Scene and will disappear if a new Scene begins.

Rolling + a sheet label only works if the character sheet your game is using has been set up for this feature. Many character sheets on RoleGate were created before the introduction of rolling with sheet labels and aren’t configured properly to make use of it. If you’re a player, this is something your GM will have to help with.
The first step is to open the character sheet for editing by selecting the Overflow Menu > Characters > Overflow Menu > Edit Sheet Template
In order to roll a named label, it must be listed as a label to a numerical element on the Character Sheet (it looks like this)
Whatever is in the grey box is what a user must enter to use the roll plus label.
It’s possible on a sheet to hide the sheet labels. If your sheet has hidden sheet labels, it will look like this:
If this is the case you can still roll plus label. Click the element you want to see the label for, and select the icon that looks like a tag:
Clicking the tag icon will reveal the label and you can edit it. Once edited, you can click the tag icon again to hide the label, it will still be usable to roll in the game.
Editing Roll Labels
No, at this time it’s not possible to completely switch character sheet templates. The closest you can get is to edit the existing template.
To do this, select the Overflow Menu > Characters > Overflow Menu > Edit Template
From here you can edit the sheet in any way you choose. (Need Help? A Character Sheet FAQ is coming soon!)
First, read the game posting! Many GMs will lay out what they’re looking for in players and how to join right in the game’s rules or description.
If you want to join a game, the easiest way is to visit the #looking-for channels on the Rolegate Discord and speaking directly with a gamemaster working on putting together a game.
If you find a game directly on the site that you want to join, and it has no password, then go ahead and click join! It’s understood on RoleGate that leaving the password off is the same as rolling out a welcome mat for new players. Once you join, speak with the GM in the OOC chat first to introduce yourself and make sure the game is still running.
If you find a game directly on the site that you want to join, but it has a password, then you’ll need to speak to the GM in the game’s Public Chat in order to request entry.

A helper is an interactive guidebook for the game you're playing. They are created by RoleGate users to make it easier to play a game on the go without rulebooks!
To add a helper to your game, simply click the paper clip icon in the top center of the game screen and search for the helper you wish to add. Click the plus button next to the correct helper and it will automatically open on the right side of the screen.
From now on, when you want to access the helper you can just click the paper clip icon again!
Adding a Helper to Your Game
A game in RoleGate consists of four primary methods of communication across three "channels" that allow the players and GM to communicate words, actions, table chatter, and to communicate with non-players. Briefly we'll cover what each channel is for and how to switch between them:
An Example of Each Chat Channel and How to Switch Between Them
When in Say mode, you can change the tone of voice your character speaks in by selecting the Tone icon to the right of the text entry field on both desktop and mobile. On mobile there is no text on the icon, but it is the waveform icon to the right of the text entry.
Speaking with Tone
To speak a different language on Desktop, simply select the Language icon when you are in Say mode and select the language you want to speak. On mobile, click the Speech Bubble icon > Say > click the Arrow on the left side of the text entry > and select the Language icon (it looks just like the Desktop version). If the language you are trying to speak does not appear, it means that the GM has not configured it yet (see How do I create languages?).
Speaking a Different Language
One of the first things many new RoleGate GMs notice is that rolls they make are tagged with a notice that reads "only you can see this" and want to know how to make their rolls visible.
The solution to this is to roll your dice as an NPC. In fact, most RoleGate GMs will create an NPC called GM to do their rolling, and also make it easier for players to whisper them (see next question).
When you roll your dice, make sure you've selected an NPC instead of the default Narrator voice, and everyone will see your dice rolls!
Creating a GM NPC to Make GM Rolls Visible
A player can whisper to the GM by whispering to any NPC. Many RoleGate GMs will choose to create an NPC called GM (as mentioned in the previous answer) to make it easy for players to know who to whisper to.
If the GM has not created a GM NPC the easiest way to whisper to the GM is to Whisper to yourself.
Also keep in mind that spectators can read all whispers.
RoleGate uses the Markdown formatting language. A quick summary of the available commands is listed here:
Some things to note. The Heading format is a pound sign and then a space, the format does not work without the space. The same is true of the dash for bulleted lists.
These formatting commands work in the game itself, on the Handouts page, and in the Description and Rules sections of the Game Settings page.
They do not work on the Notes tab, or in any field of the character sheet.
Currently it is not possible for a game to have multiple GMs. This is a feature that is actively being considered and is on the RoleGate Voting List (see What is the RoleGate Voting List?)
