First of all it is a plugin and not a template. In other words RFP is an addition to the engine, an "extension" of the engine's capabilities through extra functionality.
To open it you need to:Â
Open/create an UE project.
Go to Edit -> Plugins and find 'Ready First Person' and enable it. The engine will ask you to restart it.
The RFP folder will appear in any project you need, so go to Content down below, and turn on Plugin content and Engine content.
Then you will see a lot of folders, where should be one called Ready First Person Content.
If you want to see the plugin's capabilities, take a look at the Demonstration in a folder Maps.
Developers typically create two meshes: one first-person and one third-person. Our plugin is designed for beginners, so we opted for one mesh and a head-mounted camera.
It is more complicated to make a few packs of animations and models. Because to add, for example, a gun with two meshes system developer actually need three guns:
One physical actor lying around in the world.
Another one, in the hands of our player that visible to other players.
And a last one that visible in first-person, usually more detailed.
And minimum two animations: first-person and third-person.
This also complicates the architecture but we strive for simplicity so that anyone can easily understand it.
You can smooth it out by adjusting the Rotation Speed parameter in your character.
