Frequently Asked Questions
Which instruments are available to choose from?
Students are placed in Beginning Band class or Beginning Orchestra class. Band class students can only pick Flute, Clarinet, Trumpet, or Trombone. Leading into Spring break students may audition to play saxophone or percussion. Orchestra class students can pick violin, viola, cello, or bass.
Do I have to know anything about music to join band?
No. Everything you need to know about playing an instrument will be taught in your Band/Orchestra class. Any training in music you already have will be very helpful, but it is not required.
I don't know what instrument I should play. Will someone advise me?
The Band/Orchestra director will host an instrument fitting session during school where students will have the chance to try out instruments. This will be Wednesday August 21st, 2024 at 5:00pm in the Cafeteria.
Who is in the band/orchestra in the 6th grade?
Some of the nicest and brightest students are in the Reynolds Middle School Band and Orchestra. Your friends and fellow classmates will join you in what will be some of the most exciting times of your school days. The more friends, the more fun!
Does being a member of band require a lot of outside of school time?
As a beginning Band/Orchestra Student, there are only 5-6 times during the whole year we will have practices or performances outside of the regular school day.
How much money will this cost?
Fortunately, not much. The main cost is your instrument is $25. Many students rent an instrument through Beacocks Music or Eastside Music Shop for a monthly cost of $16 - $20. The school district provides the more expensive instruments to students for a very low, yearly maintenance fee of $25 a year.
The band uniform for concerts is all black clothing. Black shirt, black pants, black socks, and black shoes. If the students wants to wear a dress or skirt it must be the color black and the length must reach below the kneecaps. If your family is in need of assistance with purchasing any of these articles of clothing please email Mr. Brown more than 2 weeks before a concert.
