At Rex Road Elementary, we use a student-centered, data-driven process to ensure each child receives the academic and behavioral support they need.
Here's how it works:
01. Universal Screening
All students are screened three times a year to assess academic performance in reading and math.
02. Data Review & Team Discussion
The Intervention Team reviews student data and teacher input to determine who may need additional support.
03.Tier Placement & Goal Setting
Students receive support through Tier 2 (targeted small group) or Tier 3 (intensive one-on-one) interventions.
Individual learning goals are set based on student needs.
04. Progress Monitoring
Students are monitored weekly or biweekly using validated tools (e.g., DIBELS, STAR Math).
05. Adjustments & Parent Communication
The intervention plan is adjusted as needed. Parents are kept informed and involved throughout the process.
Q: How do I know if my child is receiving intervention?
A: You will receive a parent letter, and I’ll reach out directly to explain the support your child will receive.
Q: Will my child miss class for intervention?
A: Interventions are scheduled to minimize disruption to core instruction. We will provide support during designated intervention blocks or flexible instructional time.
Q: How long will my child receive intervention?
A: That will depend on his or her progress. Some students meet their goals in a few weeks, while others benefit from longer-term support.
Q: Can I request intervention for my child?
A: If you have academic or behavioral concerns, reach out to your child’s teacher or to me directly. We’ll review data together and discuss the best next steps.
Q: Does intervention mean my child has a learning disability?
A: Not necessarily. Many students need short-term support to master key skills. Intervention helps us respond early and avoid long-term difficulties.
