Flying to Portugal
The closest airport is Francisco Sá Carneiro International Airport in Oporto, located some 85 kms to the north of Aveiro. Travel to Humberto Delgado International Airport in Lisbon is also possible, located 250 kms to the south of Aveiro.
From Oporto to Aveiro
Flying to Oporto, a practical way to travel to Aveiro is by bus transfer from the airport. Two companies operate a regular service, Flixbus (https://www.flixbus.pt/) and Rede-Expresso (https://rede-expressos.pt/pt). There is also the possibility to arrive by train from Porto Campanha station (approximately 1-hour trip). The journey from the Oporto airport to the train station Porto-Campanhã can be done by taxi/Uber or subway (less expensive, about 40 minutes). The subway station is just outside the airport, and head to Porto-Campanhã where you will find regular trains to Aveiro. The less expensive option is to catch the urban (U) train. The fastest option (but more expensive) is to take the Alfa Pendular (AP) train.
From Lisbon to Aveiro
Flying to Lisbon, the best way to travel to Aveiro is also by train (approximately 2h30m trip). The best Lisbon train station for this trip is Lisboa-Oriente. The journey from the Lisbon airport to the Lisboa-Oriente train station can be done by bus, taxi/Uber or subway (less expensive, about 15 minutes). The subway station is just outside the airport, and head to Lisboa-Oriente where you will find regular trains to Aveiro. The less expensive option is to catch the Intercidades (IC) train. The fastest option (but more expensive) is to take the Alfa Pendular (AP) train.
From the Aveiro train station to the University of Aveiro
The Aveiro train station is at a 2 km distance from the University of Aveiro, approximately a 30 minutes walk. Alternatively, bus, taxi, or Uber/Bolt are available. Exit the station from the front entrance (Av. Dr. Lourenço Peixinho), where you will find a beautiful tiles mural.
