NHSDA HONOR SOCIETY

Revita Dance Studio is proud to announce our sponsorship of NHSDA Junior and Secondary Chapters!

What is NHSDA?

The National Honor Society for Dance Arts is a product of the National Dance Education Organization (NDEO) in order to encourage and reward students for their artistic merit, fantastic leadership, and academic achievement.

How do I join?

You may be inducted into a Junior Chapter (6th-8th grade) or Secondary Chapter (9th-12th grade) through acquiring points according to the Point System created by NHSDA (this Point System is included at the bottom of this page). Junior Chapter members are required to collect 15 points for induction, Secondary are required to collect 30 points. According to NHSDA, this process will take the average involved dancer around a year.

You must exhibit great character through leadership, attitude, behavior, motivation, and teamwork.

You must keep up an overall GPA of 3.2.

Once inducted you cannot be taken out of NHSDA, but it may be decided by a chapter sponsor that a member is barred from any chapter involvement due to an inability to exhibit acceptable behavior.

Why is the NHSDA important?

Just as students are awarded for excellent academics and other school related activities with honors programs, Revita believes our students should be awarded for the hard work they put into their dance! Being a part of NHSDA gives a credibility to your child's passion for dance by showing those outside of our studio they are hard working, committed, and a valued part of the dance community. It allows your student to physically track and prove they were involved in the dance studio.

Is there a cost to join?

Yes, if approved for induction there is a fee of $8 paid to the NHSDA and ceremony costs which may vary from $25-$50 per student.

I'm interested! What else should I know?

Below are sections dedicated to both the Junior Chapter induction and the Secondary Chapter induction. Please read thoroughly for more information on the process of becoming a NHSDA student. There is also a Junior and Secondary Student/Parent handbook available at the bottom of this page for your reference.

Junior Chapter

Grades 6th-8th.

Chapter Sponsor: Revita Dance Studio, Carolina Bucker

Requirements: 15 points, an Above Average Character, 3.2 overall GPA

The National Honor Society for Dance Arts is a title worth working for! In order to qualify the student must exhibit good behavior in their leadership abilities, attitude, motivation, and class presence according to their teachers and the chapter sponsor. The student must also show proof of a 3.2 GPA or higher from their current school district. (If your education system does not use Grade Point Average a collaborative effort will be made to create a comparable academic standard.)

A dancer may finally qualify for induction through a collection of points according to the NHSDA National Induction Point Rubric. This point system is based off of participation points, character points, and overall academic GPA. You must acquire 15 points to qualify for induction into the Junior Chapter.

You may begin collecting points upon entering 6th grade (beginning the summer before 6th grade). If you currently meet age requirements to begin tracking points you may only go as far back as January 2018. Students are responsible for tracking their own points! In order to keep track of points earned, a student is welcome to use the Points Tracking Form available at the bottom of this page or a tracking system of their own creation. This point sheet must be turned into the office every 30 days for our own records. Before applying for induction all points must be confirmed by the chapter sponsor. At least 10 of the 15 points must be acquired through Revita activities. 5 points may be acquired through off-site activities such as other dance classes, productions, workshops, camps, etc. You must present proof of any points acquired in off-site activities to be credited points appropriately.

Once you have reached 15 points you may apply for Induction at www.nhsda-ndeo.org

This application must be reviewed for approval by the Chapter Sponsor (Carolina Bucker).

There is an $8 induction fee each time you are inducted into a chapter paid to NHSDA. You may choose extra cords and buttons. Charges will apply accordingly.

You will continue to keep track of points earned once inducted! For every 10 points earned once inducted into the Junior Chapter you may apply 1 point towards induction into the Secondary Chapter, up to 5 points.
