Created by Li Fong, Little Explorers is a Singapore-developed instructional card game designed to cultivate cultural and global awareness among Lower Primary students through engaging gameplay.
Academic subjects, with their discipline-based structure and well-defined knowledge corpus, often allow for straightforward assessment of students’ achievements. However, teaching, learning, and assessing abstract concepts and intangible values, such as those found in lifeskills education, present unique challenges. This study examines the efficacy of Little Explorers in addressing these challenges by supporting the holistic development of students in alignment with Singapore’s Ministry of Education (MOE) framework for 21st-century competencies. This framework, integral to Singapore schools’ Character and Citizenship Education (CCE), aims to prepare students to thrive in a fast-changing and highly connected world. Little Explorers was also the top 6 finalist in The 4th International Educational Games Competition – Card Game Category hosted by 10th European Conference on Game Based Learning 2016
