Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney: Retrial is a ROM-hack of the DS version of Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney dedicated to expanding and improving the game, with the goal of making it the definitive way to play.
Started by modder Anonymous Waddle Dee, they have completely dissected the game in order to add new content and revisions to make the game more fun and to let the game's original ideas shine.
View the full changelog below for fundamentals, but here's what the latest version has in store:
Written five character-focused mini-episodes in the style of The Great Ace Attorney's Escapades
Implemented new settings including: no flashing, no screen shakes, the option to switch out AA1 music for AA3 music, and more!
Backported Chapter Select and text backlog features from modern rereleases of the game, along with other quality of life features
Here's the current changelog:
Changes up to version 1c:
Back-ported all known changes future versions of AJ made (let me know if there are any others besides the "a dark age of the law is upon us" line at the end of 4-1)
Fixed all known typos (about ten throughout the game)
Changed Trucy's skin color to match her biological family, in all instances except for her zoomed-out court sprite, the locket, and the ending cutscene with the photos
Toned down Hickfield's dialogue
Edited some dialogue in 4-3 and added others to better acknowledge the lack of common sense and the rushed nature of the trial
Made Overtaken play in the final trial day
Fixed all known logical errors: the lack of acknowledgment of fingerprints on the gun in 4-3, the line about Apollo's father dying in a stage accident, and the one about Magnifi's will
Added functionality for the game to read additional text files without the need to replace existing ones
Version 1d:
Fixed bug that softlocked game upon an incorrect objection
Added functionality for the game to read additional background images without the need to replace existing ones
Wrote a program to convert any 4:3 image into a format that AJ can read
Wrote a program to convert text into code that AJ can read as text, making it much easier and faster to add large amounts of dialogue
Unlocks all cases from the start, including the place where the fifth case will go in the future (it looks weird now, but it will be given a proper menu button)
Version 1e:
