Retail is transforming and so are retail design companies, from a place where you go make a purchase to a place where you go to experience the brand. The customer knows what they brought, but they only remember what they felt. In this economy of attention, investment in the emotional bond with the customer. It’s also one of the best investments a brand can make. Now the brand can’t really take each of the customers out on a date to establish an emotional bond. So, what else can a brand do?

To make sure the customer gets the best of the retail experience, the brand needs to hone in on specific emotions. To do that, the brand would focus on specific elements to get specific results. You can’t have heavy metal music and dark cold colours for Christmas themed store. But there is one of the factors instrumental in driving the customer subconsciously to the specific mood or emotion that the brand wants to convey. That is lighting.

Lighting affects everyone and even though not anyone can tell why. The effects are most certainly there. So, it is no surprise that the leaps in technology would affect the in-store lighting and overall retail store design. More ways to establish lighting means more experimentation and more ways the retail store can establish a unique image outside the convention. So, keeping its importance in mind, let’s look at how lighting going to get reformed as technology is taking more and more space.

ALL INTERCONNECTED

Think along the lines of a ghost in a machine. A digital entity connecting the world. We are not there yet but we are getting there because of the Internet of Things.

IoT is a technology that will not only connect your smartphone and computer with the internet but will also connect your gadgets with your fridge, TV, lighting fixtures, and more. It has enabled us to remotely control our lighting fixtures with our smart gadgets. This means, if you want, you can switch on and off lights from anywhere with an in-built sensor that will establish a connection with your phone or computer. Because there is no limit to the human need to remain at one spot. Procrastination is not the only option but life is multiple choice.

LEDs PAVING THE WAY

LED lights are the new technology trends in the industry that cannot be avoided because of their numerous benefits, from environmental health to your own health. It is basically good for everyone involved. These lightings are energy efficient and consume less electricity which eventually results in the reduction of electricity bills. So over time, the cha-cha-ing keeps mounting. Moreover, they emit less heat that helps in reducing the carbon dioxide produced by the lights. So, as the brands become more ecologically conscious, LEDs are the first step.

WITH THE SPEED OF LIGHT

Technology makes things better and more convenient. It also makes simple things like a light source, complex. But on the bright side (pun intended), it evolves the existing technology. One such example is Lifi. It is like Wifi technology where in-doors LED luminaries are used to create a light communication system.

You get light with the internet brightening the world altogether. It is set to transform our shops, galleries, museums, indoor spaces into resourceful places, where data can be transformed using available lighting sources. These are just a few advancements changing the traditional methods at the speed of light. But hold up, there are plenty coming.
