Who said that research is carried out only in labs while sitting at our desk in front of our computer? Can a weekend of relax surrounded by nature aid our own scientific quests? Can a collaboration between PhD students start from an informal talk in a casa rural an hour away from Barcelona? As young researchers we like to answer such scientific inquiries by means of well-designed and rigorous experiments: that's why we are organizing REST-CL, a retreat for PhD students organized by PhD students.

Inspired by events like ReSSP, the first REST-CL (Retreat for PhD students in Computational Linguistics) will take place in Spring 2020 and will gather a small group of PhD students (max. 20). We seek to provide an opportunity for PhD students in Computational Linguistics to exchange knowledge, share experiences of academic life and socialize with fellow students, establishing both professional and personal relations in an enjoyable escape to a Catalan casa rural.

Informal discussions, brainstorming sessions, long and short talks, good ol' chalk talks as well as advice and mentoring conversations with two invited postdocs will be all over the place during REST-CL.
