RE Sound Meter
Last updated: May 4, 2026
This Privacy Policy describes how RE Sound Meter ("the app", "we", "us") handles user information. RE Sound Meter is developed by Resonancia Éter, an independent developer based in Spain.
Our position on privacy is simple: we do not want your data, we do not collect your data, and we have no way to receive your data even if we wanted to.
INFORMATION WE COLLECT
None.
RE Sound Meter does not collect, store, transmit, or process any personal information of any kind. The app:
- Does not require an account or login
- Does not ask for your name, email, phone number, or any contact information
- Does not access your contacts, photos, calendar, or any other personal data
- Does not track your location
- Does not use cookies, fingerprinting, or any tracking technology
- Does not contain advertising SDKs or third-party analytics
- Does not include the Identifier for Advertisers (IDFA)
MICROPHONE USE — IMPORTANT
RE Sound Meter requires access to the device microphone to function. This is the core feature of the app: measuring sound levels in your environment.
How the microphone is used:
- Audio is captured from the microphone in real time using Apple's standard AVAudioEngine framework.
- The audio is analyzed numerically on your device to calculate decibel levels (RMS analysis with A-weighting approximation).
- After analysis, the audio buffers are discarded immediately. They exist in memory only for the milliseconds needed to perform the calculation.
The audio is NEVER:
- Recorded to a file
- Saved to your device storage
- Uploaded to any server
- Transmitted over the internet
- Shared with any third party
- Used for voice recognition, speech-to-text, or any other purpose beyond decibel measurement
You can revoke microphone access at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone → RE Sound Meter. The app will simply stop measuring; no other functionality is affected.
INTERNET CONNECTION
RE Sound Meter is a fully offline application. The app never connects to the internet under any condition. There is no server, no API, no remote service, no cloud sync. All audio processing, settings, and functionality happen entirely on your device.
DATA STORED ON YOUR DEVICE
The app stores your local preferences (such as reference level visibility) on your device using standard iOS storage. This data:
- Is stored only on your device
- Is never transmitted anywhere
- Is automatically deleted when you uninstall the app
- Cannot be accessed by us or by any third party
THIRD-PARTY SERVICES
RE Sound Meter does not use any third-party services, SDKs, frameworks, or libraries that collect user data. The app uses only Apple's standard frameworks (AVFoundation, AVAudioEngine, SwiftUI) which operate locally on your device.
CHILDREN'S PRIVACY
RE Sound Meter is rated 4+ and is suitable for users of all ages. Because the app does not collect any data, it complies with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and similar regulations worldwide by design.
NOT A MEDICAL DEVICE
RE Sound Meter is provided for informational and educational purposes only. It is NOT a medical device, NOT a diagnostic tool, and NOT a calibrated instrument. The app provides approximate decibel measurements based on the iPhone microphone, which is not laboratory-grade. For professional, regulatory, or legal measurements, please use a properly calibrated sound level meter.
CHANGES TO THIS POLICY
If this Privacy Policy is updated in the future, the new version will be published on this page with a revised "Last updated" date. Because the app does not collect data, any policy changes will only affect clarifying language, not data practices.
