August Recess Action: People's Speak-Outs (Aug 21 - Sep 4)
Members of Congress are heading home this weekend, and they need to hear from YOU, their constituents! MoveOn will be asking our membership to partake in "People's Speak-Out" action events for the whole August Recess period. For Mobilizers, we're asking you to plan your events between August 21 and September 4. You have the opportunity to make a real impact by hosting or participating in at least one August Recess activity—your third and final monthly action of Resistance Summer—but we highly encourage you to host and/or attend more than one August Recess event! We want you to take the time now to really plan out your August Recess activity:
First, start by looking at your member of Congress' schedule.
If your member of Congress is hosting a town hall or speaking at an event, we want you to attend it and hold them accountable by asking hard questions and recording it. Here is the event guide for attending a town hall.
If nothing is planned out, plan your own People's Speak-Out event between August 21 and September 4.
Once you've decided what kind of event you'll have, be sure to register it on our website at resistancerecess.com. You'll also find guides an other helpful resources under the "Materials" tab.
The goal of our August monthly action is to make a lot of noise and get media coverage (local, national, and social), because that influences the decisions and actions of members of Congress and their staff.
