With the recent revelation about the alleged composer of the soundtrack now coming to light all these years later, perhaps this infamous soundtrack was just slammed by some absurd form of poetic justice.

Netflix's Resident Evil features a soundtrack jam-packed with modern hits and classic tunes that help to give the zombie series a jolt of musical life. Debuting in 2022, the series' story is split across two points in time and follows twins Billie (Siena Agudong) and Jade (Tamara Smart) as they uncover their father's connection to the mysterious Umbrella Corporation which eventually leads to the zombie apocalypse seen in the future year of 2036. Using the games as inspiration, the series tells its own story that is heavily anchored in Resident Evil lore.

The series received mostly negative reviews from critics (via Rotten Tomatoes), though it was praised for its faithfulness to the classic RE games. The cast of Resident Evil is also quite strong, with veterans such as the late Lance Reddick providing strong performances. Besides the acting, the special effects and sound design helped with the overall ambiance, and the Resident Evil soundtrack was another highlight of the Netflix original series that was canceled after only one season.

Roadrunner Records has announced the track listing for the upcoming soundtrack to the "Resident Evil: Apocalypse" movie, due on August 31. The soundtrack, which highlights the best of today's darker leaning heavy rock, features SLIPKNOT, A PERFECT CIRCLE, THE CURE, THE USED, ROB ZOMBIE and more. The first single from the album will be KILLSWITCH ENGAGE's "The End Of Heartache", which will impact radio on August 9. The band's latest album, "The End of Heartache" was released in mid-May and has already surpassed the 109,262 copies in the U.S., according to Nielsen SoundScan.

Sound design is an often overlooked and underappreciated element of many games, but it's an element Capcom takes very seriously in Resident Evil 4. As horrific as the game looks, it's the soundtrack and creepy sound effects that do much of the heavy lifting in building fear and tension. To understand how the remake remixes and enhances the original game's soundscape, I picked the brains of RE4 sound director Hiroshi Tamura and lead composer Kota Suzuki to learn how they're making the game sound as good as it plays.

Suzuki: There's no song that we used as-is from the original. But roughly speaking, probably about 30% of the tracks keep a melody line from the original or arrange a phrase from the original. The other 70% is new. Of that, some of it is music remade while keeping the original concept. For the Ganado music I touched upon earlier, that concept was using a lot of noise sounds, but for another track, it could be an irregular rhythm or a creepy sound that almost sounds like a voice. And for some tracks, we've taken a different approach. For example, maybe a track in the original had a very strong horror feel that we instead went with a little more dramatic direction for it in the remake. I think you'll find the soundtrack has a lot of variety throughout. 0852c4b9a8
