Growing up in a trailer on a rural Ontario farm had challenges. At 21 my mother immigrated from the Philippines leaving everything behind. Since I was young, I was taught that success takes work, but my goals are achievable if I am willing to put in the effort. While working at UWO’s Zoological Collection, I continued to grow my passion in entomology. This reminded me of my work in agriculture, considering the need for integrated pest management as resistance and biodiversity loss arise. I further developed my skills in entomology and plant agricutlure through coursework, volunteer opportunities, and learning on my own. I am confident in the laboratory and field research skills I have developed throughout methodology, chemistry, and environmental science courses at UWO. My master’s in plant agriculture is allowing me to further develop my skills, acquire more knowledge and develop relationships with like-minded colleagues to pursue my goals in integrated pest management.
