What is climate change?
Climate change, also known as global warming, is when the average temperature keeps increasing. In the old days, Like when there was an Ice age, climate change was not that bad because there was hardly any life with all that ice. On an average summer day (from 2021) Would be in the 70s and 80s. In the future temperatures could get up into the 90s for an average day in the summer in Michigan.
Greta Thumburg is a climate activist!
A climate activist is a person that really cares about climate change and speaks out to a lot of people. Greta talks to the president too. She tells people about products they should get to have less pollution and climate change. Greta is from Sweden. Right now, (2021) she is 15. Greta is the youngest climate activist ever! We should consider her as a hero.
The greenhouse effect
As shown in this image 1# , it starts with the sun. The sunlight hits the earth and warms it. (Good) And some of the warm air bounces out of the atmosphere and projects into space. (Good) Some of it bounces into the atmosphere as some particles floating around stick to the light and stay just above the earth trapping the hot air in. (BAD) This is one of the ways that impact climate change.
Deforestation
Deforestation means cutting down forests. This is sad and scientists worry about what could happen if we cut down too many trees. Everyone knows that we breathe in oxygen. Everyone also thinks Carbon dioxide is the bad guy. Yes and mostly no. We are the problem. Trees breathe in carbon dioxide. That is part of their diet as a plant. I'm saying that plants count on carbon dioxide. You're probably wondering why there is a bad side to carbon dioxide. Like I said, before we were here there was a perfect ecosystem. An ecosystem is a perfect balance of life, resources, food and a rotation like a circle of life in nature. But since we are here, cutting down thousands of trees pr. Day, just to make a single box of tissues just for people to sell for money is incredibly SAD.That is what we call a normal day.
Another thing we do is cutting down forests (Especially rain forests) for land. Like for farm land and roads. (More by more about deforestation)
We Still have hope
Let's pretend we have a graft sitting right in front of us. Red = lots of carbon dioxide. Orange = carbon dioxide. Yellow = some carbon dioxide. Blue = Hardly any carbon dioxide.
First in January Would be mostly red and orange. Then February Would be Red and orange still, Right along with early march. Then as plants come up the red should slowly disappear due to the plants taking in carbon dioxide and letting out oxygen for us to breathe. And in the summer there is probably only yellow and blue. The main way we are affecting climate change
From there it's all on us. Using gas for electronics, unnatural resources to make power and buying from factories that let out terrible amounts of carbon dioxide. And this is not good. Natural resources are wind turbines (the tall white pinwheels),
Those are pushed by wind which makes power. Sometimes people use waterwheels. Those also make natural power. Those are the two main natural resources.
Lots of people try to use those things. Sometimes that's not enough. We need everyone doing their part. Every time we drive in a car, motorcycle, boat or anything that puts gas into the air is a big part of climate change. That is so much carbon dioxide! We know that trees need it but not that much.
More about deforestation
We don't only use the trees but we also use the land for farming and building space. Every time we cut down a tree all the carbon dioxide is released that the tree has absorbed over its lifetime. And we are cutting down lots of trees pr. Day. Plant some trees in your yard to help this problem. Only cut down a tree if it is infected (sick),damaged or likely to fall.
Even planting a single tree can make a difference. Every year on earth day we plant a tree. The more trees you have around your house the fresher the air will be when you spend some time in your yard. Because we know that trees breathe in carbon dioxide and they breathe in carbon dioxide.
Eating less meat is a great thing to do! Here are some reasons why...
Less need to cut down trees for farm land
Less cow farts are relessed (They are gross and are bad for the enviermont
Eating less meat is more healthy for you
Meatless Monday is a great way to start.
Just always remeber to fallow your dreams, but along the way, try to be a little more enviermetally frindly.
