The Rensselaer County Redtails is a composite youth mountain bike club in the New York Chapter of National Interscholastic Cycling Association (NICA).
The Redtails practice and train out of the SKYHIGH Adventure Community Center located in Averill Park, NY.
The club is open to all 5-12th grade students within Rensselaer County, NY and surrounding areas.
The Redtails are happy to partner with the Hudson Taconic Lands and the Saratoga Mountain Bike Association to maintain and continue development of mountain bike trails at the Poestenkill Community Forest.
The NICA Mission is to build strong minds, bodies, character, and communities through cycling.
Our vision is for every youth to be empowered to be part of a thriving and engaged cycling community. We value having fun and adventure while inspiring friendships in an inclusive, equitable team environment that emphasizes respect and community building.
Experience is not necessary! Our coaches are NICA certified and have years of combined experience racing and coaching cycling.
Mountain bike riding and racing is one of National Interscholastic Cycling Association’s (NICA) core youth activities. This NICA format is the most inclusive format for youth, offering participants the opportunity to learn skills, make friends, be challenged in a fun way as they learn discipline, and share in the successes of their teammates. Training and racing in the team environment helps student-athletes learn empathy, humility, flexibility, and resiliency. NICA student-athletes learn that it takes a village to build a successful team and athlete.
