ReNica is a small but mighty team of Nicaraguan nationals and international partners working together to build practical, community-driven solutions for environmental sustainability in Nicaragua. Mitch, Jeró, Antonio, Engel, Richard, Marisella and others have committed time and energy to organize projects in San Juan Del Sur that reduce trash (especiallly plastics) and provide ways to better sustain our planet.
We believe real change happens when education, infrastructure, and culture move together. We don't have all of the answers and welcome Nicaraguans, expats, visitors and anyone else with ideas around systems changes to better protect the land and sea, to contribute their thoughts and ideas and time.
Our work focuses on three core areas:
1. K–12 Environmental Education
We partner with schools to inspire the next generation of environmental leaders. Through hands-on learning, reusable tools, and locally relevant curriculum, students don’t just learn about sustainability — they practice it.
2. Public Awareness & Behavior Change
Sustainability is not only about systems — it’s about daily habits. We work to normalize reducing, reusing, and recycling through community engagement, visible action, and simple behavior-change strategies that make participation easy and rewarding.
3. Waste & Recycling Infrastructure
Lasting environmental progress requires real systems. We support the development of organized waste collection, recycling partnerships, and circular models that reduce plastic pollution and keep materials in use longer.
For thousands of year the people of Nicaragua systems of interconnectedness, balance and unity with nature, society and each other to achieve harmony and happiness. We envision a Nicaragua where there is a return to harmony especially with the planet, and sustainability is woven into everyday life — in schools, homes, businesses, and municipalities. A country where plastic pollution is reduced, resources are valued, and circular systems become the norm.
We combine local leadership with systems thinking.
We honor community knowledge while introducing scalable, practical models. We learn from our ancestors who were successful creating and maintaining balance in natural world.
We focus on solutions that are culturally relevant, economically viable, and environmentally sound.
ReNica exists to help shift behaviors, build infrastructure, and create a culture of sustainability that can grow from the classroom to the community — and from the community to the nation.
