Statement:
René Serrano’s painting practice explores the relationship between geometric forms and organic elements to render fragments of an imagined society—be it utopian or rural, deserted or bustling.
He approaches landscape painting as a cartography of the fictive, serving as an evolving dialogue between sight and insight, where images function as vocabulary and composition acts as syntax.
Cohabitating this terrain, a secret calligraphy unfolds, derived from abstractions of professional dancers directed in the studio specifically for this purpose. These “silhouettes” meander across the canvas like notes on an unrepeatable musical score.
Influenced by artists like F.Verdier or G. Mathieu or C. Rolet, Serrano employs a diverse materiality—combining acrylics, oils, raw pigments, golden leaf, and graphite.

Born in Guanajuato, MX,1975
Lives and Works in Morelia MX.
In 1997, he left a degree in Business Administration to travel through Central Europe as a street musician.
In 2002, he obtained a degree in Applied Arts from the Academy of Fine Arts in Tournai, Belgium. He later completed a Master’s degree in Arts and Technologies at the European University of Madrid, Spain, in 2005.
He is a twotime recipient of the Established Creators grants, the Young Creators and the CoInvestment grants from the Mexican Ministry of Culture.
Serrano's work has been featured in numerous art festivals and artist residencies. He has held solo exhibitions at key institutions including the Diego Rivera Museum in Guanajuato, the Urban Museum of Puebla, the Querétaro City Museum, the CCC in Morelia, and the Maison de l’Amérique Latine in Brussels, alongside group exhibitions in Mexico, New York, Dubai, and Brussels.
His pieces are included the permanent collections of several Mexican cultural institutions, including the Museum of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Mexico City), the Museum of Contemporary Art in Morelia, among others.
He has previously served as a Producer and Art Director in several media production.

A Journey Within Mexico explores small, meditative lapses in time in everyday life. Fusing the mundane with daily events, this photographic series documents the quiet rhythms of the local atmosphere.
The series steers away from the polished, postcard aesthetic favored by social media. Instead, these images look beyond individual ego to uncover a subject's history where past and present continuously overlap.
Spanning both rural and urban environments, these landscapes invite reflection on society’s footprint and the subtle marks left behind by our passage.
